Shisanhang floor by floor: how to shop New China Building without wasting a morning

One tower, thousands of booths, new styles every morning. Which floors matter, what they cost, and the five questions to ask at the counter.

Shisanhang is not one market — it is a district, and the district is one building: New China Building (新中国大厦) at 1 Shisanhang Road, Liwan. Metro Lines 6 and 8, Cultural Park station, Exit D, three minutes on foot. Inside, thousands of booths turn over stock so fast that a style can be gone in two days.

Opening hours are brutal and non-negotiable: 06:30 to 14:00 for wholesale. After 14:00 some booths sell retail, at a higher price, to a much smaller crowd. Arrive at 7:00. By 11:00 the lifts are jammed, the good styles are sold out and the booth owners are packing.

The floors

Shisanhang floor bands and price ranges

Floors What you find Typical price
B1 – 3F Volume basics, denim, accessories, socks ¥25 – 60
4F – 6F Original Korean-style design, the heart of the market ¥60 – 200
7F – 9F Showrooms, mature and European styles ¥120 – 300
10F – 12F Plus size, full size runs ¥80 – 200

If you run a boutique or a mid-range online store, floors 4 to 6 are where your money goes. Below that you are fighting with market traders and live-streamers over the same cheap stock. Above that you are paying for a showroom.

A useful trick: go up to floor 9 first and walk down. You will calibrate your eye on the better garments before you see the cheap ones, which makes you far less likely to overbuy on floor 2.

Five questions at the counter

  1. 这款怎么拿? — How do I take this wholesale?
  2. 几件起批? — What is the minimum?
  3. 可以混色吗? — Can I mix colours? (mixing sizes is much rarer)
  4. 打包价多少? — What is the bundle price? Usually 10–30% below the first number you hear.
  5. 有没有现货? — Is it in stock, or is it made to order (排单)?

Never open with 多少钱 ("how much"). It is the retail question, and it changes the price you get.

The rules nobody tells you

  • 5 to 10 pieces per style and colour is the standard minimum. A few booths allow mixed colours; mixed sizes are rare.
  • No fitting rooms on the lower floors. Check seams, lining and zips with your hands.
  • No photos in many booths. Ask first, or wait until you have placed the order.
  • Spot stock beats pre-order. A 排单 style can take 10–20 days — long enough to miss your season.
  • Bring a big black bag, not a suitcase. You will be treated like a shop owner instead of a tourist.

What to do with the rest of the day

Shisanhang closes early. Two minutes away are Hongbiantian (红遍天) for cheap basics and Chengda (诚大), connected to the second floor of New China Building, for younger styles. If you still have legs left, Huimei and Hongmian at the railway station are open until 18:00–19:00 and sell from one piece.
